Common Questions About Psychiatric Care in Hamilton, NJ

Hamilton Psychiatric Services

We understand that choosing a psychiatrist is an important decision. Below are straightforward answers to the questions we hear most often from new and prospective patients at Hamilton Psychiatric.

Q. What can a psychiatrist do for me?

A psychiatrist is a board-certified medical doctor specializing in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental health conditions. Dr. Mirza evaluates your symptoms, provides an accurate diagnosis, creates a personalized treatment plan, prescribes and manages psychiatric medications, and offers psychotherapy. Unlike other mental health providers, psychiatrists can both prescribe medication and deliver therapy — giving you more comprehensive care in one place.

Q. Will my treatment be kept confidential?

Yes. Hamilton Psychiatric is fully HIPAA compliant. We will never disclose information about your treatment without your written consent. The only legal exception is if you present an immediate danger to yourself or others, in which case we are required by law to notify the appropriate authorities. You will receive our HIPAA Privacy Notice at your first visit.

Q. What should I do in a psychiatric emergency?

If you are in a psychiatric emergency — including thoughts of harming yourself or others — call 911 or go to your nearest ER immediately. You can also call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988. For urgent but non-emergency matters (refills, medication side effects), call our office and leave a message. We return calls within one business day.

Q. What is your cancellation and no-show policy?

When you schedule an appointment, that time is reserved exclusively for you. We ask that you cancel at least two full business days in advance. For example, if your appointment is Monday at 4 PM, please cancel by the previous Thursday at 4 PM. Late cancellations or missed appointments may result in a fee — insurance companies do not reimburse for missed visits. Emergency exceptions are handled case by case.

Q. Why choose an out-of-network psychiatrist?

As an out-of-network provider, Dr. Mirza can focus entirely on what is best for your care — not what an insurance company allows. Benefits include:

  • Appointment length and frequency determined by your clinical needs, not insurance caps
  • No referral or prior authorization required — schedule directly
  • Complete privacy — records are never released without your permission
  • Continuity of care with a psychiatrist who knows your full history

Q. Do you accept HSA, FSA, or HRA payment?

Yes. Psychiatric care is a qualified medical expense under IRS rules. You may pay directly with your HSA, FSA, or HRA debit card — or pay out of pocket and submit your receipt for reimbursement. If you do not yet have one of these pre-tax accounts, ask your employer's HR department about setting one up.
